During Holy Week, our church worship services mark — in real time — the most astounding week in the life of Jesus. Those eight days swing from triumph to despair to joy. The rhythm of this week forces us to slow down and, through worship, live with the events we read about.
Palm Sunday, March 29, 8:30 and 10:30 a.m.: Jesus’ entrance into Jerusalem is greeted by excited crowds, but he knows his actions will provoke those in authority. The 10:30 a.m. service will be live-streamed on Ascension’s YouTube channel.
Maundy Thursday, April 2, 7 p.m.: Jesus holds his Last Supper with his disciples, and sets an example of humble service by washing his companions’ dusty feet. The meal — in our case the Eucharist —is followed swiftly by Jesus’ betrayal, arrest and trial. We remove all the sacred objects from the church until Easter Sunday. The service will also be live-streamed on Ascension’s YouTube channel.
Good Friday, April 3, 10 a.m.: We re-imagine the grief of Jesus’ death by crucifixion as we search for meaning in it and repent for ways we have fallen short of what God calls us to do and to be. The service will also be live-streamed on Ascension’s YouTube channel.
Easter Sunday, April 5, 8:30 and 10:30 a.m.: The joyous celebration of Jesus’ Resurrection, a gift of hope to all humanity. The 10:30 a.m. service will also be live-streamed on Ascension’s YouTube channel.
YouTube Tip: On some devices, it may take several hours after the recorded video of the service is posted for it to be listed on our YouTube channel. If you cannot find it immediately in the channel, please search “Church of the Ascension London Ontario month day.”
