Building Community

Deft hands meticulously work needles through colouful fabric, and the conversation flows as readily as the coffee and tea when Ascension’s quilters get together.

Many groups at Church of the Ascension meet for friendship, social times, and a bit of service to the church and the community.

Anglican Church Women (ACW)

The ACW meets regularly on the first and third Mondays of the month at 1:30 p.m. The women have a time of fellowship together and host special events such as card parties and fashion shows throughout the year.

The twice-yearly ACW fashion shows are a big hit.

Craft Club

Crafters meet to have company while working on projects. Some supplies are provided for the projects, although members may have to bring material. Ideas for future projects are also requested.

Seniors Music Afternoons

This is a group open to all in the community,. It started out partnered with Argyle Seniors Neighbourhood Advisory Committee and has since expanded to all  areas in London, finding there is a real need for seniors to have a safe place where they could come for fellowship and social time. It’s a once-a-month afternoon (noon-3 p.m.) of variety of music types and lunch. The schedule is on the Posters & Flyers page.  Some people who have attend these events have made donations and all monies have been donated to the church

Quilters Group

The quilters meet every Monday from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the church to work on quilts, although some who aren’t quilters bring their knitting and join the group for the company. Although their work brings in income for the church, the members speak first of friendships when they’re asked what they get out of the group.  Quilters can be asked to make or repair quilts for you. They also work on quilts for organizations such as the Women’s Community House and Mission Services.
